Twelve years ago, I started making my own independent short films. In recent years, I think I’ve kind of lost the plot a little bit. So, in an attempt to reflect and prioritise what’s important, I’m re-releasing some of my old works (mid-life crisis!).
‘Popiahs, murtabaks and a patriotic donkey’ is probably the first short film I made… way back in 2003. It’s a video-essay about Malaysia’s obsession of always wanting to break records. I had watched Amir Muhammad‘s 6horts at The Actors Studio beneath Dataran Merdeka a year before and it made me feel like I could do it too. Not too bad for a first attempt I think. It even got invited to a few festivals:
– 26th New York Asian-American International Film Festival 2003
– The Emergency Filmmaking Project 2003 (Singapore)
– Cyberjaya Digital Video Competition 2003 Gold Award (Humour and Spoof)
– 2004 Eksperimento Film & Video Festival (Philippines)

Oh… and if you want to own my short films, I have a compilation DVD called ‘R.A.H.M.A.N. and other short films’ on sale really cheap at The Fat Bidin E-Store! Heheh! Wink wink!
