Being both self-employed or a full-time employee is something that I have experienced throughout my professional life and I get asked a lot about which I prefer. These people are usually freelancers looking for a full time job, or full-timers looking to go freelance.
I can be literal and just tell them what I personally prefer. But that won’t really help them. So my advice is for them to know themselves and then understanding what being self-employed or fully employed entails. Just as being self-employed isn’t for everybody, neither is being fully employed.
A person who has a free spirit, find trouble in implementing other people’s ideas and always wanting to try different things would generally sum up someone who is suited for self-employment. While a person who loves working in a structured environment, loves constant collaboration, not very entrepreneurial (let’s face it, not many people are, so we need to make our own skill sets work for us), patient and calm would be someone who is best suited for full-time employment.
