I have to be honest and say that I am quite worried. Why does the repeal of a law have to also be followed by a replacement?
Loud, enraged, and biased voices on the Internet have the potential to shut down different perspectives and discussions.
What is taking so long for the government to repeal the laws?
What is interesting gets hyped up and the truth faces the risk of being pushed down and drowned out.
Malaysians need to mature in their thought process, and once we have matured, then the hate speech spewed by different quarters of the media will die a natural slow death.
These are cases that gives a very confusing perception of the freedom of speech in Malaysia
So how can we actually be confident that this new attempt at creating laws will curb fake news instead of curbing freedom of speech?
It’s a damn if you do and damn if you don’t situation.
Ideas that challenge and contradict other faiths have even more reason not to be banned. The diverse views allow people of different beliefs to come together and accept each other, without trying to persuade or influence others.
