Synopsis:
Zan is a Muslim documentary filmmaker who was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Many see Malaysia as a moderate Islamic country that has found a unique and harmonious balance between religion, secularism and multiculturalism. And just like any curious Malaysian Muslim, decides to learn and find out more about Islam and his identity as a Malaysian Muslim. Zan decides to embark on a journey with nothing but his video camera and a bag full of instant noodles to the heartlands of Islam, the Middle-East. He meets a brutal heavy metal band in Iran, discovers a Syrian version of Low Yat Plaza in Damascus, hangs out with a couple of young Palestinian dudes in a camp in Beirut and learns about love and sex from a bunch of artists in Jordan.

  10. dear dear, malaysia since when you become muslim ? 100 years ago ? 200 years ago ? maybe 20 years ago ? or maybe 50 years ago ?

    it’s like saying Japanese are christians.

    you can not convert the whole country into being muslim, you know the problem is, you really have to be born into this faith not afterwards.

    its common believe between muslims. go ask anybody. i never believed malaysia is muslim, i can still remember from long ago. before islam came to your ports. a very long time ago.

    malaysia is a buddhist country.

    • First and foremost, Malaysia only came to be since 16 September 1963 right after the joining of Sabah and Sarawak. Before that we were known as Tanah Melayu and earlier before that – The Malay Archipelago. You mentioned Malaysia not Tanah Melayu or Malay Archipelago. Though there were of course connotations of the name Malaysia being used as early as 1914 when a map in Chicago dated that very year was found. Nonetheless, it was only officiated in 1963 as stated earlier. So, obviously it wasn’t exactly as early as 100 or 200 years as you may have (hopefully in sarcasm) suggested. Secondly, Buddhism and Hinduism era came to halt at the arrival of Islam in the 13th century. So, even if you want to consider the years before Tanah Melayu became Malaysia, Islam had already arrived. Finally, it was not just the Arabs that brought Islam. The Indian traders also spread the religion. Therefore, if you were to remember that far back.. well I guess it just suggests that you’re over 700years old. I wasn’t born in Malaysia neither am I old enough to remember when ‘The Arabs brought Islam to the ports’ though if there was one thing I believe in, it would be history. What is written, happened or else it wouldn’t have been written or officiated.

      And p/s to Zan Azlee, kudo’s on the Movie. Its about time people begin to understand something from a different aspect and open minds across the country.

    Algerian leader Houari Boumédienne said at the United Nations in 1974:
    “One day, millions of men will leave the Southern Hemisphere to go to the Northern Hemisphere. And they will not go there as friends. Because they will go there to conquer it. And they will conquer it with their sons. The wombs of our women will give us victory.”

    Al-Jazeera’s Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradhawi, who is widely hailed as a moderate reformer in the West, said:
    “Islam will return to Europe as a conqueror and victor,” and “the conquest this time will not be by the sword but by preaching and ideology.”

    A Saudi Sheikh, Muhammad bin Abd Al-Rahman Al-‘Arifi, imam of the mosque of King Fahd Defense Academy, said:
    Muslims “will control the land of the Vatican; we will control Rome and introduce Islam in it”
