FAT BIDIN MEDIA

I was on BERNAMA TV’s The Breakfast Club looking all sexy and seductive!

The Breakfast Club video clip is courtesy of BERNAMA TV.

I was on BERNAMA TV’s The Breakfast Club a few weeks ago (18th October 2011) to promote my book and DVD ‘OPERATION NASI KERABU: FINDING PATANI IN AN ISLAMIC INSURGENCY‘. Holy crap I’m so sexy! It’s no wonder I have a legion of fans! (Please like my Facebook Page… PLEASE!!!)

Of course… the book can be found at any major bookstore at RM25 (a free DVD of my documentary comes with every purchase). And if you’re interested to purchase it online, head on to the FATBIDIN e-STORE! There are other FAT BIDIN documentaries for sale too!

Athena dressed up in a spaghetti strap dress to help her pops sell his book at Readings @Seksan!

My sexy self serenading the pork!

I was recently invited to participate in Readings @Seksan by Sharon Bakar and of course, it was to read from my book ‘Operation Nasi Kerabu – Finding Patani in an Islamic Insurgency‘. The line-up was fantastic! It was Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Coming of Age), Rumaizah Abu Bakar (The Female Cell), Adib Zaini (Zombijaya), Julian CH Lee (Policing Sexuality) and, obviously, to cap everything off and to add to the prestige… ME! There was also music by Reza Salleh.

I even managed to sell quite a number of copies of my book. A bit of advice… the best marketing strategy is to carry your baby daughter around and announce that all proceeds of the sales of the book will go to buying milk and diapers for the week. Fail-proof plan!!

For those of you who did not attend the reading (I shall unfriend you on Facebook!)… fret not! You can listen to a recording of my reading by clicking on the audio player above. And if you want a copy of the book (with a free DVD!)… you can still buy it at any major bookstore or order directly at the FAT BIDIN e-STORE for a signed copy!

Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Coming of Age)

Adib Zaini (Zombijaya)

Julian CH Lee (Policing Sexuality) is the one on the far right. I was busy snapping pictures of him with his camera during his reading so I don't have any pictures of him in front of the crowd in my camera!

Rumaizah Abu Bakar (The Female Cell)

Athena all dressed up in a spaghetti strap ready to seduce the crowd into buying her pop's book!

Looks like my book is going to pay for my new yacht!

It's there... you just have to look really hard!!

Looks like ‘Operation Nasi Kerabu…‘ made it to the bestseller shelf at Kinokuniya KLCC! I’m going to be able to buy that yacht I’ve always dreamed of after all!

So I googled my name last night when no one was watching…

Okay! I google my name in the middle of the night when nobody is watching. So sue me! But look what I found… a couple of online reviews of my book and DVD ‘Operation Nasi Kerabu:Finding Patani in an Islamic Insurgency‘! Click on the images to read the reviews. Thanks Khairul and Susan for the kind words. Your money will be deposited in to your accounts soon! Muahahaha!

The Malaysian Reader.

Susan Loone.

Don’t beat yourself up if you missed my interview on BFM yesterday… I forgive you!

I forgive those of you who missed me live on BFM 89.9 Evening Edition talking about my book and film ‘Operation Nasi Kerabu: Finding Patani in an Islamic Insurgency‘ yesterday evening. I know you all tried your best. But fret not! The show is available for streaming or download so you can take it with you everywhere! Go listen now!

And just as a reminder to everyone, the book is available at all major bookstores for RM25… and you get a free DVD too! Or you can also purchase it online at the FATBIDIN E-STORE! Proceeds will go to buying my daughter milk and diapers.

A feature on me and ‘Operation Nasi Kerabu’ in The Star… and I look damn sexy!

An old Kelab Seni Filem buddy who works at The Star wrote a nice article about me and ‘Operation Nasi Kerabu‘. Allan Koay is not a bad writer at all! But it definitely helps when you have an interesting character to write about huh? Muahahaha!! You can click on the image above or here to read the article.

The promotion campaign for my book & DVD has begun… with a sexy ass TV appearance and a first review in a newspaper

After the official launch, the promotion of my book and DVD ‘OPERATION NASI KERABU: FINDING PATANI IN AN ISLAMIC INSURGENCY‘ has been going along quite well. How can it not when you have such a sexy ass guy behind it (ME of course!). Last week, I was on ntv7′s The Breakfast Show along with Tuwaedaniya Meringing, the main character of my book and film who so graciously flew down to Kuala Lumpur from Thailand to help me with my promotion campaign. (The clip below is courtesy of ntv7 and Primeworks Studios)

And a few days ago, The Malay Mail wrote a decent review of my book, which you can read online here.

The book can be found at any major book store at the price of RM25 (and this includes a free DVD of my documentary film ‘THE LIFE & TIMES OF AN ISLAMIC INSURGENCY‘!). You can also buy it online at FATBIDIN.COM/STORE/. So please buy the book people! I need to feed my four month old daughter! She’s been crying for milk for a long time now!

My book & DVD launch – OPERATION NASI KERABU: FINDING PATANI IN AN ISLAMIC INSURGENCY

And so it was the launch of my book and DVD ‘OPERATION NASI KERABU: FINDING PATANI IN AN ISLAMIC INSURGENCY‘ which took place at The Annexe, Central Market in Kuala Lumpur. I’ve got an aching wrist from signing a gazillion copies of my book!

Tuwaedaniya Meringing (AKA Daniya), the veteran journalist/fixer from Patani and also the main character of my book and film, saying a few words about the conflict in his hometown.

Indulging my adoring fans!

Please buy my book if you want my daughter to continue having milk to drink and diapers to poop in!

The two guys that made this happen… Tuwaedaniya Meringing and Ezra Zaid (ZI Publications).

And on a last note, tune in to ntv7′s The Breakfast Show this Tuesday, 21st June 2011, at 9am, to see Daniya and me talk about my book and film!

Date: 19th June 2011
Time: 3pm
Location: The Annexe Gallery, Central Market, Kuala Lumpur

Book synopsis: The news from Patani is like a movie: smoke, bombs, a near civil war. Yet just over our northern border, the people are Muslim, Bahasa-speaking, baju-wearing Malays, just like us. With this in mind, documentary-maker Zan Azlee set off to find the real Patani, trying to seperate the kedai kopi from the Humvees, the gunfights from the nasi kerabu. It’s hard to make new friends and man a camera while looking over your shoulder for suicide bombers. But he was determined to ask the question: how do people live their lives in a warzone? With his resulting film banned for political reasons, this is Azlee’s first chance to share what he found.

So come and be enthralled!

The final episode… nobody dies! Sorry.

Thanks for following FATBIDIN.TV! This is the last episode of my film made in Pattani.

FAT BIDIN PRESENTS…
THE LIFE & TIMES OF AN ISLAMIC INSURGENCY
Part 15 of 15
Everyone survives. The end.

Short synopsis:
Zan Azlee, a Malay Muslim documentary filmmaker from Malaysia, travels to Pattani in Southern Thailand to see the violent Islamic insurgency there. He feels somewhat a kin to them since the locals are Thai-Malays and Muslim too. This film is banned from broadcast in Malaysia by the Prime Minister’s Office.

Long live FAT BIDIN!

I’ve been so obsessed with work that I neglected something I started due to passion. Do you all still remember FATBIDIN.TV? The last video to go up on the site was an episode of WE THE PEOPLE… (the one about the Projek Angkat Rumah in July 2010). Ever since then, my life has been jam packed with television shows, writing work, consulting clients, lecturing, vacuuming carpets, toilet cleaning, grocery shopping, women hunting and god knows anything else that could pay the bills! Everything else was neglected. The second half of 2009 and first half of 2010 even saw FATBIDIN.TV having a sponsor/advertiser that allowed the site to be financially independent. But that came to a halt… and so did my momentum to work on the site. (A new sponsor would be great! Any takers? Call me! Muahaha!)

Come 2011… a new-found vigour fueled by a lack of creative fulfillment for so long has re-ignited my energy and passion. The wife is going to give me a baby and I’m excited! The little monster needs a father who is filled with passion and energy… not a father who comes home (Where do I come home from when I actually work from home?? Haha!) and just slouches on the couch to unwind from a tired, uninspiring and boring day running in the rat race?

So FATBIDIN.TV is back! A new episode of FAT BIDIN PRESENTS… The Life & Times of an Islamic Insurgency (Part 14 of 15) is posted on the site. Remember The Life & Times of an Islamic Insurgency? It’s the film I made about Southern Thailand which was banned by the Prime Minister’s Office two days before it was suppose to go on air on ntv7. One more episode to go and the whole film in its entirety will be out in the New Media. More projects will be coming from FAT BIDIN (me!!!) this year. Just you wait and see! Be prepared to be blown out of your minds!!

Indonesians and Malaysians talk about films in Berkeley

(Left-Right) Zan Azlee, Dr Marshall Clark, Elyna Shukri, Jajang C. Noer and Dr Sarah Maxim, director of Centre of Southeast Asia Sudies

So I’m still in California for the Islam Today Arts & Culture Festival at UC Berkeley and I recently was part of a panel discussion which consisted of the late Yasmin Ahmad’s producer, Elyna Shukri, veteran Indonesian actress, Jajang C. Noer, and moderated by Dr Marshall Clark from Deakin University in Australia.

It was a great discussion of course! So great that I had to write about it in my latest column at The Malaysian Insider!

Malaysia and Indonesia — how we make films

By Zan Azlee
APRIL 23 — I’m still suffering from the cold winds of the San Francisco Bay area. Most recently, after the screening of my films and lecture at University of California, Berkeley, I was part of a panel discussion entitled ‘Making movies in Indonesia and Malaysia”.

Aside from me, the other panellists included the late Yasmin Ahmad’s producer, Elyna Shukri, and veteran Indonesian actress, Jajang C. Noer. It was moderated by Dr Marshall Clark from Deakin University in Australia.

First of all, I was a little intimidated being in the presence of such experienced industry professionals. Elyna had produced some of Malaysia’s most thought-provoking films in recent history, while Jajang has starred in more films than the years I have been alive! Neglect no more! New episode of that Pattani film on FATBIDIN.TV!

Did you know that in some places, the Malaysian media is the more trusted one?

Rainbow greetings from San Francisco!

Rainbow greetings from San Francisco! I’m attending the Islam Today Arts & Culture Festival at UC Berkeley. My films have screened and I also gave a lecture there. Everything’s good and thank god for good lobster!

Outside the screening venue in Berkeley. Notice the huge crowd gathering around me trying to catch my films!

I gave a lecture to a group of students at the University of California, Berkeley. It was fun and we had a laugh!

These are the professors... Prof. Jeffrey Hadler and Dr. Sarah Maxim.

Lobster babyyyy!!

And.. here’s this week’s column for The Malaysian Insider.

How much did that film cost?

By Zan Azlee
APRIL 16 — Here I am at the San Francisco Bay Area, with the freezing cold wind blowing in my face, giving me extremely chapped lips.
I came here to attend the Islam Today Arts & Culture Festival, organised by University of California, Berkeley’s Centre of Southeast Asia Studies.
They were screening two films of mine, and had invited me to give a lecture and be part of a panel discussion.

Now I’m off to The Castro!

The Islam Today Arts & Culture Festival in San Francisco gets a dose of Fat Bidin!

Looks like FAT BIDIN is gonna rock the San Francisco Bay area!

Two of my films (I’m Muslim Too! and The Life & Times of an Islamic Insurgency) will be screening at the University of California, Berkeley’s Islam Today Arts & Culture Festival. So I’ll be heading to San Francisco this Friday and will be there for a couple of weeks. I’m pretty excited since I’m also scheduled to give some talks over there.

So if you’re in the vicinity next week (12th to 22nd April 2010) and would like to get a good look at my beautiful face, come on over! Check out the website and schedule here.

Oh… other Malaysian films that will be screening there aside from mine include Yasmin Ahmad’s (Gubra and Muallaf) as well as Amir Muhammad’s (Village People Radio Show and Malaysian Gods).

FATBIDIN.TV pushing strong in it’s 2nd week with brand new episodes!

How are my peeps doing? Fatbidin.tv has had a great start and is continuing in it’s second week! The three fledgling shows all have new episodes that are freaking ball-tearers!

1. FAT BIDIN PRESENTS…
THE LIFE & TIMES OF AN ISLAMIC INSURGENCY

What can I say? It’s my banned-in-Malaysia film getting a life online! The second episode sees me finding out the truth in the rumour that the Islamic militants are getting their funding from Tom Yam restaurants in Malaysia. Go watch it here.

2. WE THE PEOPLE…
Chatting with Indonesians in Malaysia (about that whole culture-stealing debacle!)

The show that gives a voice to the people sees some Indonesians living in Malaysia commenting on the recent spat between the two countries about stealing each other’s heritage and culture. Watch and start pointing fingers here.

3. THE P1 NET SHOW
The Social Media Club

The second episode gets a bit nerdy. A bunch of guys (and gals) who socialize online get together for real… at the Social Media Club! Watch it here.

Come on guys! Fatbidin.tv is the place to be!
